How do braces work?

Braces work by applying gradual pressure on the teeth, slowly moving them into the desired alignment. The jaw bone adapts as minor changes in the wires/brackets apply pressure over time, which allows the teeth and their roots to adjust.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A BRACKET COMES OFF?
We understand that sometimes life happens. If you notice that a bracket is loose, call our office so that we can help you schedule an appointment to have the bracket replaced. If the loose bracket is bothering you in the meantime, try to cover it with some orthodontic wax.
How do you care for your braces?
We want you to have not only a beautiful smile, but also beautiful teeth! Once your braces are on, make sure you take care of them. Brush around each bracket in a circular motion with a soft bristled toothbrush. The water flosser and soft picks are great helpers to keep food out of your brackets and wires after you eat, but also make sure you are flossing every day with string floss. You should be coming in regularly to see us for adjustments, but don't forget to also see your dentist for routine dental exams and cleanings!
